The manor was first mentioned in 1510. The construction of the heart of the estate in a stately manner began at the time of von Benkendorffs at the end of the 19th century. The flush joint brick castle was completed in 1915, having been influenced by both Art Noveau and Gothic Revival At present, the manor houses the Jäneda Study and Counselling Centre, musical observatory, conference centre, guest house and the pub Musta Täku Tall pub. By the historical distribution the manor was in Ambla Parish in Järvamaa County. By the present administrative distribution it belongs to the Tapa Municipality in Lääne-Virumaa County.
